Moodboard

Below is the moodboard I created to help with planning for my music video shoots. Firstly, we have the location of the shoots. I have included pictures of the woods (specifically in Autumn time if I am able to) as I feel as though it will bring more to the shoot in terms of colour, it will look prettier and gives a warm background feeling to the video.

Next, there are some images of a dark room, really because I didn’t have any pictures of the black box room in our school. I’m aware that these pictures come off as eerie which is not the look I will be going for but I do want to create a feeling of loneliness and so will set up the lights so that he is the only thing lit up in the shot.

I have also included pictures of the outfits I have in mind for the artist to wear, this is not a necessity for my video as it’s in the indie genre and so it will have a casual/laid back feel. Therefore, I think casual clothes will look fine and will suit the style of the video so I wont be strict with what I want the artist to wear.

Finally, there are images of equipment on the moodboard, these are the main pieces of equipment that I will be using during all of my shoots and photoshoots. There is a Canon 550D camera which I will use for taking pictures and filming. The lens in a Canon EF-S 18mm that is an ultra-wide angled zoom lens. This will provide high quality as well as a good wide angled shot allowing me to capture different shots with the background included.

Location Recce

The pictures above are from Ruislip Woods, I have chosen this location to do a selection of my filming as I feel as though it will go with the sad feel to the song. The woods are seen as scary, so him alone in the woods singing this song will portray a feeling of sadness towards the artist which is what I hope to achieve with this video. Also, with it being Autumn I feel as though the colours of the leaves and trees will also help the feel of the video.

The other location is the dark room in school where I will use lights to help continue the sad, lonely feel of the song. I want to create an eerie but sad ‘vibe’ throughout the video which I feel that the lights in the dark room will help me to do.

Finally, I am undecided whether I want to film in London but I think I do want to get some shots of buildings/busy life to somehow slot into the video. My aim is to get as many ‘random’ shots as I can that I can use them to slot into the video if there are any parts that have gaps.

Proposal

Here is my proposal for my work throughout this year, specifically my music video. I have stated what I hope to/would like to achieve from my final products this year.

Producer: Maddy Franklin                                                   Production Title: Music Video

Brief: To create a music video or short film that has a specific genre e.g. music video – rock.

Aim: My aim is to create a performance style music video which is to a song in the indie genre. I will make it look as professional as possible and use different shots/locations to make it look how I want it to.

Description of intentions: One of my main intentions is to make the video look professional, in fact not just my video, all of my final products (Advert, digipak and video). I want to create something I am proud of, and therefore by making it look ‘realistic’, I will feel like I have succeeded. My second intention is to make sure that the audience will understand the emotion behind the video. The emotion I have chosen relates to the lyrics of the song, I have chosen isolation and loneliness and I want this to come across through the artists’ acting skills and the mise-en-scene of the location that I’ve chosen. I want the audience to relate to the feelings evoked in the video through the shots and the acting.

Target Audience: My target audience is the demographic group ABC1, typically aged 15-27. I feel as though the people who will relate to the video the most are people in the same age as the artist in the video, and so I think they (16-19 year olds) are my  specific focus of the larger target audience. As I said before I want them to understand from watching the video the emotion/story behind it and I feel as though the people watching, if they are in this age group they will be able to relate to the artist more.

Analysis Of Lyrics

The lyrics to this song tell a story of the artist reminiscing about his past (when he was 7), and all of the things him and his friends used to do. To when he was 11 and talks about the dream his dad told him to go for. He then talks about being 20 and how he has failed but will still carry on. The song then changes into future tense and he talks about what he hopes/wants to do in the future when he is 30, 60 and then it returns back to past tense and talks about being 7.

I feel as though the whole song tells a story about the artists’ life and different things that have happened throughout, at the different stages and so I would like to get this across in my music video if possible. I want to tell the story of the artists life shown through isolation and loneliness.

This part will be the introduction, showing clips of buildings, trees and introducing the artist

Once I was seven years old my momma told me Go make yourself some friends or you’ll be lonely Once I was seven years old

It was a big big world, but we thought we were bigger Pushing each other to the limits, we were learning quicker By eleven smoking herb and drinking burning liquor Never rich so we were out to make that steady figure

Once I was eleven years old my daddy told me Go get yourself a wife or you’ll be lonely Once I was eleven years old

I always had that dream like my daddy before me So I started writing songs, I started writing stories Something about that glory just always seemed to bore me ‘Cause only those I really love will ever really know me

Photo of the artist now, to create a story that goes with the song.

Once I was twenty years old, my story got told Before the morning sun, when life was lonely Once I was twenty years old

I only see my goals, I don’t believe in failure ‘Cause I know the smallest voices, they can make it major I got my boys with me at least those in favour And if we don’t meet before I leave, I hope I’ll see you later

Once I was twenty years old, my story got told I was writing about everything, I saw before me Once I was twenty years old Soon we’ll be thirty years old, our songs have been sold We’ve travelled around the world and we’re still roaming Soon we’ll be thirty years old

I’m still learning about life My woman brought children for me So I can sing them all my songs And I can tell them stories Most of my boys are with me Some are still out seeking glory And some I had to leave behind My brother I’m still sorry

Soon I’ll be sixty years old, my daddy got sixty-one Remember life and then your life becomes a better one I made a man so happy when I wrote a letter once I hope my children come and visit, once or twice a month

Soon I’ll be sixty years old, will I think the world is cold Or will I have a lot of children who can warm me Soon I’ll be sixty years old Soon I’ll be sixty years old, will I think the world is cold Or will I have a lot of children who can warm me Soon I’ll be sixty years old

Once I was seven years old, momma told me Go make yourself some friends or you’ll be lonely Once I was seven years old

Once I was seven years old
